6 summer break destinations
If the longer days and warmer nights are giving you itchy feet, then it could be time to organise a holiday in the sun. Here are six cracking locations to inspire you and get you reaching for your sunscreen.
Devon: Perhaps it might not top your list of dream destinations, but if youre strapped for cash then theres a lot to say for a summer spent in Devon. The county boasts everything from pretty villages and sandy beaches to adventure sports and great hiking ? so theres something to suit every taste and budget.
Paris: Of course, a local break isnt for everybody. Enjoy a trip abroad without breaking the bank by booking a weekend in the fair French capital. Locals desert the city over July and August, leaving the streets and the main attractions crowd-free; so if you can stand the heat then its a great time to visit.
Alpine adventures: Dont fancy a week spend reclining on a beach or sweating in the city? Instead, why not plan an adventure holiday to the Alps? These beautiful mountains offer a range of fantastic walks, as well as adventure sports such as bungee jumping and kayaking.
Morocco: For something a little exotic but without the long-haul flight times, take a trip to Morocco. The cities of Marrakech, Fes and Casablanca are rich in culture and surrounded by stunning scenery ? plus there are some great souks where you can pick up bargains.
The Greek Islands: Whether you want to relax in the sun or party the night away, the Greek Islands offer the perfect summer getaway. Think white sand, lapping waters and great weather guaranteed ? plus plenty of cultural and historical treats for sightseeing buffs.
Cannes: At the other end of the scale, the up-market seaside town of Cannes simply exudes opulence. Its a classic jet set hang out, so expect to find smart boutiques, seriously cool cocktails bars and exclusive beaches packed with the A-list glitterati. Great if youre planning to treat yourself with a luxury getaway.
Of course, there are plenty of fabulous summer break destinations much closer to home. For a holiday without the hassle of booking a flight, consider UK locations such as Scotland, Cornwall, London and the Lake District.
