Northumbrian Walks

Northumberland was named one of the best places for walking by Country walking magazine recently. The county is known for its quality footpaths, bridleways and suitable accommodation.
Northumberland is unique in the fact it has a great level of accessibility and diversity to its landscapes. The county has flat sands in its Coastal areas of outstanding natural beauty then you can take gentle walks around the quaint villages.
Walkers will benefit from the great public footpath network that connects the countryside and farmland with the counties villages and towns. You can challenge yourself to long distance treks while stopping off at a wide range of welcoming pubs and guest houses that will offer you excellent home cooked food and cosy accommodation for you to rest your feet. For less hardened walkers, you can take leisurely walks through picturesque hamlets and the countryside that is full of wildlife.
If you want to learn as you walk then you can book a guided tour where you will learn about the history and sites that Northumberland has to offer.
In the past walkers would rely on maps, books and signposts to navigate their way along walks. But in this new age of technology, even walkers can benefit from the internet. While researching this article I came across a great site that gives you details of walks in Northumberland, but to help you identify the routes, the sites provide photos of the paths and sites you will see. I think a site like this will serve two purposes, the first will be to help people decide what walks and paths they want to take on their Northumberland holiday. But for the more tech savvy among us, we can use the site as we take the walk on a iPhone or similar web enabled mobile device so we can track the walk as we take it. Which ever way you decide to use the website, I think it makes a great resource for people who want to find out more about walking in Northumberland if they are planning a trip to the county in the future. Who knows one day, you may be able to tick off all 32 walks listed on the site.
