This is a list of government sites with travel advice and warning. Choose either a language you prefer or compare the information and importance different countries provide.
While traveling you are not in you normal surroundings, your friends and family is far away and help maybe difficult to reach. You are unfamiliar with the local culture and habits and it might be difficult to detect dangers in time or to see them at all. Especially if you do not speak the local language a lot of information never gets to you. You might miss local gossip, a warning in the newspaper or public announcements. No problem if everything is ok, but an additional risk.
1. Register with your embassy in countries with potential problems. Embassies keep a list to be able to inform and / or evacuate when the political situation or disasters hit the country you are travelling.
2. Take a mobile with you. In case you need help you can call.
3. Leave an itenary with a trustworthy person at home. And if you change your travel route, inform about the changes.
4. Make photocopies of all your papers (passport, visa, flight ticket, health insurance) and leave it with someone at home. In case it gets lost or stolen, a photocopy makes the replacement process much faster. You could also scan the documents and store them in your email account. This way you can easily access them from every computer with internet access.
